I recently had an interesting conversation with some parents homeschool for middle school age children who currently make plans for the High School. They raised many questions that I think many parents, the others are also wondering about.

As these parents know me as a teacher for their children, our conversation centered on natural science education. Basically we have two things. Firstly, what a good education, high school science is it? And secondly, what colleges want to see?

Science is a subject as large as it is not clear what the students have to study participants. Of course, one year each of biology, chemistry and physics is traditional, but why? Why is Earth Science, which discusses some of the most important issues of our time, such as climate, are part of this is common? Is it possible to replace the more specialized classes such as astronomy, botany, forensics, or the more traditional classes? When students study only the branches of science, that they enjoy the most?

There is no clear answer to these questions, the conclusions that people do so much with the opinions and preferences, as they have to do with the facts will come. Personally, I am, if biology, chemistry and physics are all great think is just as good and earth sciences in the spotlight more than he should be. I suspect that some cases because of the profound influence of medical schools that are candidates for biology, chemistry and physics, but not science need to sit on the ground. In my opinion, to be the study of relatively large mass of high school science, but adding one or two specialized classes can be wonderful, especially if they are in addition to more general classes. When special classes to replace many of the general survey classes, my concern is that students do not get enough background information to help formulate a clear idea of how the world works.

While it may be possible for students to get a high education, high school science in a very non-traditional means, that the strategy is risky. See some universities, especially small, would probably liberal arts colleges are looking for available courses of unusual courtesy, but most colleges want SAT Subject Tests and AP exams. In New York Regents exams may also be important. Remarkably, most schools are most likely to minimize the importance of standardized tests are very expensive, so if money is no problem, it makes little sense to work hard to get some solid results. This is particularly important for homeschoolers to take the need probably at least 5 SAT Subject Tests, if they want to apply to selective colleges. It is therefore necessary to include, and probably can focus on the classes, the students shine on these tests. The only three SAT Subject Tests in science are biology, chemistry and physics. Have on AP exams is also a reliable way to impress colleges, so as to include these tests are also taken. There are AP exams in biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science and. Regents, the important state of New York (CUNY and SUNY, and especially for schools) can provide, tests in biology (known as Living Environment), chemistry, physics and earth science.

Parents that I was my recent conversation with the girls who had to be heavily biased to the humanities. You love science, but they like English and history more. They do well in math, but they do not get much joy out of it. In this sense they are at a two-year program of geoscience for students in the 8th and 9 to allow the girls to be taking the geosciences Regents at the end of grade 9 sought a biology course of two years, making it possible to take the girl SAT Subject Test in biology at the end of class 11 (and the living environment Regents examination for those among them who are the SUNY schools and CUNY), and a class one year of theoretical physics in Class 12, none of the standardized test will be bound. The chemistry is mainly absent from this scheme because it is not safe to do high school chemistry at home. I hope at least some children take a chemistry course at a community college or school to homeschoolers take classes a la carte allows.

This plan should work reasonably well for this group of children. They will go to college with some holes in their science classes, but they have thought four full years after the exposure to data analysis, experimental design, and critical. Hopefully they will have all the skills they need to also research and all the tests they need to get into schools that get to meet their needs.

Often a teacher is to approach me with a general idea for a trip to a destination. I work closely with educators to customize tours that reflect their curricula and provide fun and interesting places on the itinerary.

Heather Stevens is Coordinator of School Overseas Educational Tours. She is Para educator for pre-kindergarten through fifth student Purvis Bermuda. It took her advice and ideas for a study trip to Orlando. Stevens wanted his students to visit Walt Disney World and to engage in the study of science.

Walt Disney World in Florida has some excellent science-based education programs in their youth education series (YES). There are some special programs on student science: Synergy in Science (Epcot Center), the wild type (Animal Kingdom), Seaworld and physics curriculum – Energy & Waves (Magic Kingdom). Disney World exhibitions are used as examples for the direct application of technology and science. This practical learning is fun and educational for the students.

The principal, assistant principal and teacher provided the group of students from all of the above programs. Student favorites include magic, animation, physics – Energy & Waves and animals of Florida. “The students learned about the animals and their habitats,” said Stevens, “and we have a Science Fair in February of each year.” She continued: “The YES programs about everyday chemistry and physics were a great link to our students well.”

The students also attended the synergies in the scientific program at Epcot Center, where the children are about creativity and the technology behind Disney entertainment programs taught. “The students were enthusiastic. Many spoke of their experiences at Epcot in their journals,” said Stevens.

Stevens believes that the trip to Walt Disney World is a useful learning tool, because:
a. Children are able to obtain hands on activities.
b. Students keep a large amount of information.
c. Most students benefit from the traffic.
d This type of valve experience in a variety of learning styles.

During the trip to Walt Disney World, the students were asked to keep a reflective diary. When she returned to Purvis Elementary School in September 2010, writing was shared by the students to “a gathering of the whole school, where she gave more details about the trip and share photos,” said Stevens.

Students are more likely the information acquired while keeping active learning experiences, when told their thoughts in written form or through record after they are talking about.

When the students presented their experiences to others, they said their favorite programs were animated Magic – where they also, works like a haunted house by learned behind the scenes. Most students also had positive thoughts on the Seaworld Education Program.

In February this year, the children were occupied by the Science Fair. And, although they do not take a class trip in June this year, Stevens said, they would do it again in the future. “Working with a travel agency, we provide the core educational learning experience for the trip. We would not be able to function as a school have to go without this component,” Stevens noted.

There are many Disney Y.E.S. Programs, determine from these days, as the educational series developed over the years. Some of the latest programs include: American History (History), Showbiz Magic at La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil is a look at the cast of Cirque du Soleil’s cultures Millennium (World Showcase) and Disney Leadership Excellence: The Inside Track. This is just a small selection of JA programs are available for travel groups of students in a variety of topics.

The great part about planning a trip to Orlando group of students who participate in JA programs in order, according to Heather Stevens, “it’s fun and educational for adults as well.”

Are you like many engineers to solve highly skilled, technical problems, but not so confident with your abilities people? There is a big difference between design and business administration. Engineers in the engineering profession are constantly striving to maintain the cutting edge of technology and engineering strategies. For many engineers, it is extremely difficult to make the transition from engineer to manager. As business and government in general not in the class school of engineering, engineers are expected to get their business skills through experience and training. If you have an MBA, you will probably find it difficult to locate qualified sources of training tailored to the management for engineers.

Most state licensing boards require engineers to renew their professional licenses at regular intervals with a minimum number of continuing education units. These units are typically Professional Development Hours (PDH) or Continuing Education Units (CEU).PDH is equivalent to a one-hour training course and CEU PDH is equivalent to ten or 10 hours of training. Teach the continuing education credits for engineers or write to seminars, classes or courses, articles, or sit on boards or special committees. Most engineers get their loans through participation in conferences or seminars.

Almost all states to accept the continuing education credits or business courses, as they require related engineering. In other words, you can create a class in “How to start her own retail business” and expect to receive continuing education credit for renewal of your professional engineering license. But you can take during a “engineering technology marketing company” and receive full credit.

In addition, state licensing boards, the majority do not approve in advance courses for continuing education credit. This responsibility is usually left to the engineer to understand the status codes and filter classes appropriately. Have to accept or reject the board of directors, after the engineer presented the request for renewal of the license and give the completed form and receive credits.

Technology course management may include topics on the business plan engineering, operations, engineering, marketing, engineering, finance, suggestions, guidance, and many others. To acquire the shares necessary training, engineers can find these courses in the following sources;

Community college and university education – These institutions offer regular courses on many topics. Since the course must be addressed to a wide audience, they do not usually cover technical topics of interest for engineers. Here you will find topics of economy, but these courses are very general. Management courses that can be applied to my engineers have words such as “professional services” and “Industrial Technology” in the course title.

Seller Seminar (Lunch Presentation) – This was one of my favorite sources. It usually begins with a product provider to give you a call. It will ask if you are interested in a presentation to your desktop. If you are interested, you can say. “Yes, but I’ll need for the presentation to be made in my office during a lunch break from our participants will be my engineers and designers, and I will need you to lunch to bring. “Your team is listening to the presentation of the seller, check their products and literature to provide technical support, and enjoy lunch. Each of your engineers earn about 0.5 PDH.

On-the-job training – Some companies have monthly training for their engineers and support staff. The topics can be on a wide range of technical, ethical issues, and management. Since the topic covered, what the presentation that completed the training, the date of the session, and time spent training is made documented can be counted as meeting this training.

Seminars – These courses are often held in a hotel conference room for a few hours to several days. In general, the courses offer continuing education credits for 8 PDH per day. If you must travel, to attend the seminar, your additional expenses include the cost of the seminar, lodging, airfare, car rental, food and wine. A three-day course can easily exceed several thousand dollars. Please also note that during this time you will not have to work on all contracts, your company will be lost billable hours.

Convention and Conferences – these events offer participants a variety of course topics.Take part in a four-day convention, you can just all need continuing education credits to renew your professional license. Seminars, as if the agreement is far from your home, you have additional costs, including accommodation, flights, rental cars, food and wine. Also, since you are not in the office, you lose billable hours. Again, an agreement of thousands of offices or U.S. dollars.

Home Training Courses – These courses have been around for a long time, long before the computer. The course material is sent to your home. They study the material, the quiz and enter the survey. A week or two later, a course completion certificate will be sent to you. These types of courses will be replaced by on-line courses as discussed below.

Webinars – it is a very popular program. Seminars, which are often a bit cheaper online than actually attend a seminar. Not only better prices, but also saves the participants due to lack of travel, accommodation, restaurants, or other expenses. Of course, the participant must find an area that all sit-up the computer and speakers, and a sign on the door saying: “Do Not Disturb”. After the seminar is over, give you a completion certificate with the number of PDH or CEU is earned retained.

Online Courses – These courses are a bit like home study course, but everything is done on the Internet. You can change the course of the 24/7, and you usually get instant access to the quiz and completion certificate. These courses are the most economical and practical for the engineer. You can study almost any subject, technical, ethical or managerial tasks. Most sites tend to be technical issues. While only a few sites that specialize in business engineering. Like most of these courses are written by engineers, it is understandable that most of the courses are technical in nature.

Most engineers have excellent technical skills, but not necessarily the same level of expertise in business management and marketing. It is the responsibility of the engineer to develop the management skills through training. The training can range from community colleges, universities, training programs, professional organizations, and online training can be achieved. In most states training will qualify for continuing education units (CEUs) or Professional Development Hours (PDH).

In this paper we discussed the various sources for the training of engineers to continue. The transition from engineer to manager can be difficult, but there are resources available to obtain the necessary knowledge. Learn the essential management skills can make all the difference between a good and a bad manager.
