If the group is not moderated, flame war is not likely to stop and will only cause frustration in you.
Skeptic
The Usenet is famous for many scientists it. Scientists are among the most eloquent advocates and enthusiasts of rational thought. Rational thought and critical thinking are the topics of discussion on newsgroups like sci.skeptic. Once you are convinced that Bigfoot is hiding behind every tree and wait for a chance to pile into his UFO and fly with you, consider one of the newsgroups you stop reassure skeptical enough. If you have a good sense of humor, an interest from the wall topics and appreciation for people, often eccentric, you could easily spend a whole evening surfing through this groups.Remember USENET news is very specific in terms of its hierarchy. It’s good to talk about fringe science, foreign visitors and other topics in the forums where these issues are welcome to go. You do not want to start talking about UFOs to go to a newsgroup, however, astronomy, or talk about Bigfoot in a group of new biology.
