Daneway Foundation

Background Information: We are pleased to announce the launch of a new round of the Daneway Foundation, which is a fund administered and managed by the Community Foundation for Merseyside.

What is the focus of the fund: The Daneway Foundation aims to improve the lives of young people aged between 11 and 25 years of age. It wishes to fund projects that support socially disadvantaged young people. It wishes to give them opportunities to improve their life chances and to become active and engaged citizens in their own communities.

Fund priorities
Particular support will be given to projects that support employability or encourage the physical health and well-being of young people, and the panel are keen to see projects that result in clear tangible outcomes such as qualifications. Also the panel would like applicants to be clear about any previous experience in delivering similar work and the achievements this work has resulted in.

Examples of the sorts of projects that may be funded:
• Training and skills development for young people, e.g. Duke of Edinburgh schemes
• Mentoring schemes to improve the employability of young people
• Training courses and qualifications for young people enabling them to volunteer within clubs and community groups

How much is available: Grants of up to £5,000

Which areas are covered: Knowsley, Liverpool and Sefton

Any special criteria:
• The programme is aimed at small grassroots groups with an income level of under £250k
• Please demonstrate how beneficiaries will utilise their new skills and qualifications to become more active and engaged in their local community

The closing date is Friday 10th August and the total budget available for this funding round is approx. £25,000. Due to the budget available the fund may close earlier when sufficient applications are received.

How to apply?
Please visit the Community Foundations for Lancashire and Merseyside’s website – www.cfmerseyside.org.uk and complete an online application form. Once you have submitted the online application you will need to send the documents listed below. If you do not submit all the relevant documents within 7 days your application will be withdrawn. Please attach the documents to your online application or email them to applications@cflm.email

Documents which need to be included with your application
1. A copy of the group’s rules or constitution
2. A copy of the group’s latest annual accounts or income/expenditure document
3. A copy of a recent bank statement for your group
4. A copy of the group’s current Safeguarding Policy. All applicants must ensure that they hold relevant policies and procedures in place to undertake activities, such as Criminal Records Bureau checks and/or a health and safety policy, depending on proposed activity. If unsure about what you need please contact the Community Foundation for help (details below)
NB: If you have received a grant from us in the last 12 months and have already submitted copies of the above documents, you do not need to send them in again. However, a bank statement is required with every application.

The following items cannot be supported via the fund:
• Statutory organisations or work that is their responsibility
• National organisations that cannot demonstrate local governance/autonomy
• Commercial ventures
• Purchase/maintenance of vehicles
• Activities that will have already taken place before we offer you a grant
• Politically connected or exclusively religious activities
• Projects for personal profit
• Trophies and medals
• CCTV/Security measures
• Organisations that are established for the benefit of animals or plants: environmental groups that work with animals or the environment (such as city farms) are acceptable
• Groups comprising just one family
• Debts and other liabilities
• Reclaimable VAT
• Travel outside UK
• Gifts or projects exclusively for the purpose of entertaining

What happens next?
Completed applications are considered by Community Foundation staff to check eligibility. You may be contacted for more information after applying and a decision making panel will make recommendations based on the fund’s criteria and the budget available.

The panel is due to meet mid-September and you should expect to hear the outcome of your application within 2 weeks of this meeting.
